I really wanted to capture the movement and form of the tree but by using straight and rigid match sticks. I feel really good about it. I spent a long time clearing away glue strings with a pair of tweezers but there are still a couple danglers left. only materials used: glue gun as binding and around 600 matches.
Commentsyeah ive found that out on a more recent project:
I had this awesome design to make a cool drink dispenser out of pop cans (for a class assignment).. tried a glue gun.. no dice.. and i had been working on it for 4+ hours.. slowly the places where i glued came apart and my project was a pile of trash. it sucked. -- pw, [link] yeah those approaches make so much more sense.. i dont know why im so attracted to the glue gun.. i should try to depart from it.. maybe even start by even using DIFFERENT adhesives ... my teacher said there is a really good one for metals.. i forget the name though
-- pw, [link] i think just crazy glue would have been better for this one:
more discret and sticks really well.. seems more for 'models' and less for like ... 5th grade art class... i sill really like how this one turned out though. -- pw, [link] |

i like the self contained commentary of this: a tree built out of matches. a good way to show how fast something thats created can be destroyed.
(this would make for a fun demonstration art piece too!)
i like how natural the structure feels, like a twisting oak, or something similar to the tree in Sleepy Hollow!
the reason i graded down on impact is because i think this was meant to be much bigger than it is... :-p and then light the big one on fire. hahah
